Carson Kvapil

Carson Kvapil continued to impress in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday at Dover Motor Speedway, bringing home a strong second-place effort behind the wheel of the No. 88 Chevy Truck Season Chevrolet in the afternoon matinee. Kvapil powered his way to the lead just prior to NASCAR's version of overtime and held on to the top spot through two green-white-checkered attempts. Then, on the final restart, Kvapil started from the top lane and held strong, but lost the lead to eventual winner Ryan Truex coming to the white flag before holding on to the runner-up position. With today's result Kvapil has now earned two top-five finishes in just two career starts in the NXS, making him just the fourth driver in series history to score a top-five finish in each of his first two starts, joining former JRM drivers Ron Fellows, Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick.

“It was awesome. This No. 88 team deserves to be up front because they bring great cars to the track, and for me to run well here at Dover in one of them is pretty special. I can't thank Chevrolet and all these JR Motorsports guys enough for this opportunity and to come this close to a victory. Andrew (Overstreet, crew chief) called a great race and made some really strong adjustments. It just makes me even more excited for my next race and hope we can go to Victory Lane then."

Sam Mayer

Sam Mayer, driver of the No. 1 NASCAR Refuel Chevrolet, fought hard all day mid-pack at Dover Motor Speedway to race his way to the front for a solid third-place finish in the BetRivers 200 on Saturday at Dover Motor Speedway. Mayer continued to battle a series of handling issues over the course of the first two stages but managed to seize a Stage One 10th-place finish and a 14th-place Stage Two finish after crew chief Mardy Lindley called the shots to make some chassis adjustments under the stage breaks. Mayer started the final stage in the 13th position and was poised to start making his way to the front. The young driver was quietly making his way until a lap-167 caution for rain saw the yellow flag wave and suddenly turned into a red flag as the cars pulled down pit road. After a few minutes to let the rain clear, the No. 1 Chevrolet cruised out onto the track for the restart where he pulled behind his teammate Carson Kvapil to restart fifth with 20 laps to go. After a dicey restart that led to multiple cautions, the field was led into NASCAR’s version of overtime and the Wisconsin native lined up to take the green-white-checkered in fifth. A wild fight to the finish saw Mayer cross the line in third position.

"I am super proud of this No. 1 NASCAR Refuel team today. We fought so much adversity all day and still pushed through to get a top-three finish. The confidence this team and myself are gaining is really helping us stay up front which is exactly what we need to execute the rest of this season. Looking forward for a week to regroup for Darlington."

Justin Allgaier

Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 7 Jarrett Chevrolet, led for 39 laps on Saturday and scored a dominant Stage One victory during the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Dover Motor Speedway. With the stage win, Allgaier secured an extremely valuable playoff point. However, during NASCAR's version of overtime, Allgaier's strong run was brought to an abrupt halt. Exiting Turn 4 as the field approached the while flag, Allgaier’s right rear tire went down while battling for position inside the top five, sending the Jarrett Chevrolet into the outside retaining wall. Despite the contact with the wall, Allgaier stayed in the gas and soldiered on to that the checkered flag in 17th.

"We had an extremely fast Jarrett Chevrolet all day today. Jim (Pohlman, crew chief) gave me a great car that was really strong out front. It was just so hard to pass all day when you were back in traffic, but we fought back toward the front and had ourselves in a good position there before that green-white-checkered. This luck is bound to turn around and I know that this team will continue to fight each and every week. We'll regroup during this off-weekend and be ready to go again in Darlington."

Brandon Jones

Brandon Jones, driver of the No. 9 Menards/Barracuda Chevrolet, earned his second pole of the season and led the field to green for the 200-lap feature at the Dover Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. Jones then led the first 13 laps before a caution allowed teammate Justin Allgaier to make a pass for the lead. Once in the second position, Jones was able to maintain his spot at the front of the field where he would ultimately finish the first stage. Throughout the next 45 laps Jones battled a loose race car causing him to drop just outside the top-10, crossing the line in 11th at the second green-and-white checkered of the day. Melee ensued over the course of the next 110 laps, beginning with a red flag for rain at lap 167 that forced the field to pull onto pit road. After a short delay, Jones restarted seventh, but contact with another car sent him into a spin that required a trip down pit road for repairs. However, that stop forced Jones to rejoin the field at the tail. Even while managing damage, Jones was able to gain several spots over the remaining laps ultimately finishing in 19th.

"We had high hopes for the weekend after qualifying on the pole, but unfortunately, we just didn’t have the luck go our way during the race. We're going to take what we learned and use it to improve and keep coming back stronger. This team may get knocked down, but we’ve shown everyone that we will get back up every time."

Sammy Smith

Sammy Smith qualified 13th in his No. 8 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet for his first trip to Dover Motor Speedway with JR Motorsports. Race day saw cooler temperatures and rain, which caused a break in the race until the cell passed. Smith stood his ground during the first stage with a 12th -place finish as he understood the car's handling and let the track come to him. Smith looked to crew chief Adam Wall for a minor adjustment that would help the center to the exit of the corner but not overdo it as the track ages with more laps. Those changes did the trick as Smith drove his Pilot Flying J Chevrolet to fourth, where he ran for nearly 60 laps before making an unscheduled stop under yellow. After a restart from the tail, Smith made it to 21st before getting caught up in a multi-car accident on the frontstretch that forced the young driver end his day with a 33rd-place finish.

"We came so close again to our first top-five or better, a win as a team, but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be today. My No. 8 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet had the speed it needed so we're going back to the shop and see what we're missing to be able to put the whole package together in Darlington."
